Comment on Vancouver recruits Nintendo characters as mascots by Chad

I think the Vancouver mascots look like they were created by firms (they were a collaberation-yes, it took more than one) who turned the tv on for ten minutes and decided to boil down all of the Sponge Bob-Dora the Explorer-Nicktoons-wannabe anime crap to some very forgettable, soul-and flavor-less mulligan stew. Where's the personality? Does character design have to be bland in order to be international? And to think people got paid to come up with these things. Even Atlanta's "Izzy", though a terrible idea for a mascot, had some personality to it.

As for the 2012 logo, I think the Olympics is just becoming a joke. That's the laziest damned thing I've ever seen in commercial art.

Even though 1984's Sam the eagle was created by a Disney studio employee, it showed grace, time, and effort in character design. Heidi and Howdy from 1988 were a little generic, but again, personality and effort were put into them. These new 2010 mascots have as much emotional output as a slug. Or maybe a slug with a hip tattoo and scarf. Could be the designers thought "how do we out-bland those 'Friendlies' from Beijing"?

The opening cinematic is awesome, and I think that's really where you get the Speilburgian feel from the whole thing.

The pity about the Fate of Atlantis music is that nobody ever modernized it -- Monkey Island got a revamp treatment, but alas for the Indy games.

Too bad, too, because some of it was excellent.

"How many beads?"

"NO BEADS!!!"

Loved this game. I happen to also own the novel, and a copy of the soundtrack. :-) The opening cinematic is the best piece of music in the game, IMHO.

Ahh, memories. I miss the old LucasArts adventure games, particularly Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Good times.

I'm laughing out loud at this post. I am looking for someone who can make custom-made dolls that look like my daughter. I just don't want to preserve her, I just thought she'd enjoy playing with a little doll that looked like her. It wasn't about self-esteem because, as I'm sure you guessed, she is much more beautiful than any Cabbage Patch doll. (Ha, ha. No, she is, really, but that is not the point.)

It is funny that you should find it so creepy. Kids like to play with dolls that look like them.

That said I also found My Twinn creepy, overpriced, and worse, poor on concept (all the faces are the same, they just change the colors). Let me know if you find anything really creepy such as dolls that even change eye shape and nose shape based on pictures, will you? Cheers.

Sheet, I have only had a migraine last more than a week once, and never again please. I feel your pain. In my case I usually get around 2 or 3 one day'ers a month, but looks to be improving for the same reason as Shelley mentioned. I have cut right down on my soda and gluten intake. If I want some crisps maize ones taste as good and don't come with pain. It may also have something to do with the complete lack of alcohol, which thanks to anti-inflammatory's I cannot touch :-(

A food diary is very necessary, albeit a pain in the a$$ to figure out what kills you :-)
Good luck

I've had migraines since I was about ten, so I honestly, truly feel your pain. After getting one so bad that I ended up hospitalized, I decided to try out a food allergy diet. I've given up nuts and gluten (found in wheat) and, I'm serious, my headaches have decreased 90 percent. It isn't as hard as you think to give stuff up and you might have to experiment with what foods are bad for you.
