In the spirit of sharing, I thought I would offer some fun, fascinating facts about Yorkshire Terriers that came to mind after meeting one — and his thoughtful owner — today while getting lunch:
- The Yorkshire Terrier was the second most-popular breed in America in 2006, according to the American Kennel Club, second only to the Labrador Retriever.
- As a toy breed, the vast majority of Yorkshire Terriers (or “Yorkies”) do not exceed a weight of seven (7) pounds. While energetic, they are therefore not as highly-mobile as larger breeds, and may not be able to keep pace with you as you briskly walk home before your Chinese food gets cold.
- The lifespan of Yorkies average between twelve (12) and fifteen (15) years; however, they are prone to losses of hearing and vision, which can cause difficulty for them if they are forced to cross busy, four-lane streets in the heart of the city at lunch hour.
- Yorkies are very smart! While above-average relative to dogs, though, they are still animals, and should not be paired with humans who are below-average in intelligence relative to primates. At least one of you should be able to judge the risk of entering a busy intersection with eight (8) seconds left before the light turns red.
- There are many exciting, colorful and adorable accessories available for your Yorkshire Terrier! Look in your pet store: near the super-cute rainbow sweater you bought to add flair to your pet while protecting him from autumn’s chill, you’ll find other exciting items! Like leashes, for example, which grant you control over your pet while protecting him from death under the wheels of traffic. There are even rainbow ones!
Owning Yorkshire Terriers can be fun!

Yorkies are great! Although, you forgot to mention that they are fearless. They are not scared of anything. My yorkie, Lula Belle, thinks she is a Rottweiler! Haha
