Totally unfair, liberal lefty comparison of the day:

1. Last night, Bob Goodenow explained to Canada that “hockey players are highly paid and they deserve to be highly paid. How much they get paid, though, is dictated and controlled by the owners.”

Accused by a viewer of “perpetuating the greed of the players,” Goodenow responded: “The players are not greedy, not at all.”

“It’s not the players triggering these problems. The problems are complex and dynamic.

“It’s important for the public to understand that the players are not asking for more. The players are asking for just a fair share and a marketplace system.”

CBC’s article notes that the average hockey player’s salary has risen “from $733,000 US in 1994-95 to $1.83 million US in 2003-04.” However:

That said, Goodenow reiterated that the NHLPA is steadfastly opposed to any marketplace mechanism resembling a salary cap.

“We’ve tried to find a common ground and tried to find a fair solution, but the only response we’ve got from Gary Bettman and the owners so far is that it has to be a cap, it has to be a cap,” he said. “And as long as that’s the stance, unfortunately, this lockout is going to continue.”

2. Elsewhere, dump trucks are pushing bodies into mass graves in Haiti, as desperate survivors attack each other for food and water in the wake of tropical storm Jeanne.

Sometimes the news can really turn your stomach, can’t it?

I mean seriously — those poor hockey players. They just want to play the game!
