Thanks for sharing that. It's been a kidney stone of a year, and stories like that have helped it pass.

Oh, man -- I'm emerging from the shadows to say that "2009 is nearly over, that nasty son of a bitch" is my mantra for the rest of the day. Good riddance.

Thank you for describing this in more than 140 characters. The huge variety of paces in the running community is nothing short of awesome.

I love that the person who comes first in any race, even if it's a pro athlete, can start right alongside the person who comes last. How often does a newbie to a sport get to compete with (talk to, watch, learn from) a seasoned veteran? We all struggle to find the right shoes, the right training schedule, the right gear for the season. We're all fighting with our own personal bests - I don't see any need to divide up the running community by pace or finish times. Harrumph to the NY Times.

Augh, this debate always pisses me off. Yes, I won the last 5K I was in (Yay!). No, this doesn't mean that the people who came in 15 minutes after me had any less an accomplishment.

It isn't speed that makes one a runner. It's heart.

Holy crap! That song would get stuck in my head but I couldn't remember all of the lyrics! I think you just cured one of the earworms from my childhood!
And, yeah, his thighs are pretty bitchin'!

Oh man - hills at the END of a marathon? Now that's just taking an evil clue from Boston. Great job though! 4:08 is a very respectable time. Congratulations!

Ahahaha, Jenertia is hilarious. "The only thing I do for four hours straight is sleep" is awesome (and I totally agree).

But yay for you! What an accomplishment.
